Welcome to Maidstone Riverside Rotary’s Volunteer Action (RRoVA) Hub
The aim of the Hub is to provide a platform for non-Rotarians to serve our local community and occasionally international projects, using the good practice and aims of Rotary in general.
RRoVA consists simply of a group of non-Rotary members who offer their help with club projects and events as and when they are able or wish to.
The Hub is part of our Rotary Club’s structure and is organised by a small group of Club Rotarians, led by the Hub Co-ordinator.
As a Riverside Volunteer (RV) there is no fee to join or any formal membership. All we ask is that you allow us to keep your name, email address and mobile phone number on our list of RVs. This information will be maintained by the Hub Co-ordinator and will be used solely for communication between the Hub Co-ordinator and the named RV. It will not be shared elsewhere. We also have a closed Facebook and What’s App group to aid communication and information. We hope as many RV’s will join these groups, but of course, there is no obligation.
Rotary is largely about giving help in the community and occasionally for related international projects. RV’s may be asked to work alongside Rotarians to assist with a variety of projects and events. Examples might be fundraising for a specific charity or more “hands on,” such as we have currently as stewards assisting the medical teams at Covid Vaccination Centres.
The following are examples of some club projects where additional help has been welcomed:
Kent County Showground - manning the entrances and ticket sales
Annual Christmas Collections- charity fundraising at Maidstone supermarkets
Litter Picking - along River Medway tow path
Planting Trees - assisting environmental groups
Planting Crocuses – at roundabouts and public areas
GreatHomeRun - a club activity event supporting five local charities
Packing and delivering boxes of goodies to the elderly and vulnerable
21-4-21 - a 21 mile club event pulling a Shelter box for an international charity
Delivering meals on wheels for local charities and organisations
Marshalling at Covid vaccination centres
Befriending, driving and other support activities through local charities
CV and interview preparation for secondary school students as part of their career planning
Providing respite help for local Young Carers – e.g. canoeing day and 10-pin bowling evening …..and many more
We hope to steadily build up the numbers on our RV’s list. For most small projects we normally only need a few RV’s to assist us but should a crisis occur, such as the need for help with the Covid vaccination programme, we need immediate access to tens of helpers. In December 2020 we put out a call for volunteers and the response from the public has been amazing. A few months on and we have nearly 50 non-Rotarians helping us with this vital task. It is hoped that many of these will join as RV’s so we are always ready should the need arise.
